During this free webinar some of our longest-serving members will share their expertise and offer advice during our first CAPIO Past Presidents “Ask Me Anything” webinar. During this free webinar, some of CAPIO’s past presidents will be on hand to answer all of your questions about career advancement, crisis communications, graphic design, and anything else. As the subreddit says, “Have anything interesting or unique to share about yourself? Let people ask you anything.” We may even discuss the possibility of a Kansas City Chiefs three-peat in the Super Bowl if that interests you.

BIOS

Lael Wageneck, APR is the Public Information Officer for the Santa Barbara County Public Works Department which serves over 400,000 residents. He has over 15 years of experience in media production, public relations and public administration, and has presented a many CAPIO conferences on topics from photography to ethics. He previously served on the CAPIO Board as the Central California Regional Chair from 2015-17.

Christine Brainerd, APR is a seasoned communications professional with nearly 20 years of experience in public information, public relations, and journalism.

Christine joined the City of Folsom as Communications Manager in January 2015 and was promoted to Communications Director in 2019. She is responsible for managing a comprehensive communications program, including news media relations, public information, community relations, and advertising. Christine was recognized as CAPIO’s 2023 Paul B. Clark recipient which recognizes change-makers and leaders in the public information field.

Maurice Chaney is a strategic communication professional with more than 20 years of combined experience in both the public and private sectors. He is a Public Information Officer for the City of Roseville’s Environmental Utilities—a suite of community-owned utilities for a community of 140,000.

Before his role at Roseville, he served nearly seven years as a Media and Communication Specialist for Sacramento. He worked on large economic development projects, such as the new sports arena and digital communications and media relations for several departments. He also served Sacramento County in a similar role. Maurice’s career started at a private consulting firm, Jones and Stokes (now ICF International), where he worked on local and statewide environmental public participation projects.

Jenny Windle, MPA, is one of California’s most experienced and well-respected communication professionals, and she brings more than 25 years of award-winning experience to her role as founder and CEO of JPW. Prior to starting the firm, Windle served as an in-house government communicator for 18 years working for local cities and special districts in California, including serving as the director of marketing and communications for the Port of San Diego.

C.L. Lopez, MBA

Communications has been a part of C.L. Lopez’s life for more than 25 years with experience in journalism, public information, and education.

She went on to 15-year career in public information with San Bernardino County, most notably as the Human Services Communications Officer overseeing communications in nine social services departments in the largest geographic county in the United States. 

In her newest role, as Riverside County Department of Public Social Services Public Information Officer, she leads the award-wining Office of Communications’ Adult Services, Children’s Services and Sufficiency Services communication efforts to serve the County’s children, families and seniors and dependent adults.
