CAPIO realizes that ongoing learning and development is key to our members’ success. That’s why CAPIO is proud to offer many programs to support our members’ advancement in the communications profession. From our popular J. Lindsey Wolf PIO Institute to internationally recognized Accreditation in Public Relations (APR), there is a program tailored to each step in your career.

Young Communicator Scholarship program

CAPIO’s Young Communicator Scholarship is open to undergraduate and graduate students who are pursuing a career in the field of government communications. The winner of the $1,500 scholarship will be announced at CAPIO’s annual conference this May.  The application period will open February 12 and close April 5.

CAPIO’s popular J. Lindsey Wolf Certificate in Communications is one of the hallmark offerings of our Association.  Established in 2003, this certification, which is exclusively offered through CAPIO, provides a solid foundation of core communications courses focused on strategies and tactics to meet the evolving needs of CAPIO members and keep pace with the everchanging communications landscape.  The J. Lindsey Wolf Certificate in Communications is offered free to CAPIO members.

CAPIO Speaking Club
CAPIOspeak

CAPIOspeak has started our monthly meetings!   Maintaining a primary focus on developing public speaking skills,  CAPIOspeak is a free speaking club for CAPIO members.

Think of it as your safe space to SPEAK! Meetings include opportunities to deliver presentations and practice impromptu speaking and prepare for media interviews. Other elements may include strategizing key messages around late-breaking issues that affect our member agencies, crowd-sourcing communication solutions for a specific issue you are having, or watching and discussing relevant resources (i.e., TED Talks) on improving skills, specifically in the area of verbal communication.

April is APR month, which recognizes that not everyone can do what we do as government communicators.  You may have seen our social media posts or heard the buzz that CAPIO is one of only nine organizations to administer the internationally recognized APR.
